task 8: favourite previous student video

Last year, a group of boys that created this music video did beyond well in producing an excellence and engaging video. A vast amount of technical elements had been used and the end result seemed as if this could be a video can be viewed through television.

I love how they went on supporting Carol Vernallis theory:
It was very clear that they had base tracks: one around the abandoned docks and one where the guy is singing near the motoway. The camera also moved in time with the music, this made it give more rhythm to create more effect. Also the use of the continuity editing where the guy is in the grave yard creates a form of narrative and understanding to what he is talking about, this helps to engage the audience even more. They use some form of disjuncture where they rap/sing about losing someone close to them, with connotations with death (graveyard). Also there were a lot of close up shots and eye contact with the audience, that made us feel like they were talking to us.

I like the use of the transitions; this made the music video very effective and interesting.
I really liked the ideas of the mise en scene; it suited the type of song they played, the costumes were very simple but effective. The use of the panning motion when the boy changed from a white t shirt into a black one when the camera panned down, was very creative and different.
