Task 8

Favourite student work
______________________________________________________________

Above is a link to one of my favourite past student work. I particularly like this video because it includes an abundance of elements and features that make a music video. In addition, it is extremely clear that they put alot of thought into the meaning of the song lyrics and how they can communicate this to the chosen audience though visuals, costume and mise en scene.

I like the way that the students paid close
attention to the costume and lighting to fit
the context and mood of the video. As seen
above, 2 of the students are in black and one
is in white. This relates to the lyrics and idea of 'the other side' - one being dark and one being light. This could also have unlying meanings of good and bad or life and death.

They also considered the lighting and the way it fitted in with the theme of 'the other side'. For example there was a dimly lit scene where one of the students were performing which contrasted with one of the base tracks where another student was in a well lit scene in the middle of the road.

Lastly, it is also very evident that the students planned and paid close attention to the way they edited their music video to make sure they got the context across to their chosen target audience. In particular, I really liked their choice of transitions to communicate the idea of the 'other side'. Fade in and outs were used as well as the camera itself moving from one scene to another ( light to dark ) with a quick transition.

( One of the last scenes where all 3 boys are seen wearing all black - meaning they are all now on 'the other side' )
