Multiple use of close ups:  In the music video 'stay' by Rihanna, an abundance of close ups are used to not only identify the artist but it also allows the audience to connect with the audience as she breaks the fourth wall by staring into the camera.

Use of slow motion:  In this music video by Adele, the use of slow motion is used at many points to go with the generic feel of the song and its genre. It makes the audience concentrate on the scenes that are in slow motion and its meaning 

The use of base tracks:  The use of the repetition of the base track in the Bruno Mars song ' it will rain' is used to staple the idea of love an affection into the audiences mind. As Carol says it is used to give structure an meaning to the video.
